120012 Linol pad (A4 format) A true Japico classic reissued - high-quality Japanese paper with excellent colour absorption for sharply drawn print images and the finest details. Japico lino printing paper is tear-resistant, absorbent and resistant to ageing as it is acid-free. Brilliant colour reproduction when using markers, felt-tip pens and fibre-tip pens. The roughened paper surface is also very suitable for abrasive colouring materials such as graphite, charcoal and pastel pencils. Lino printing - suitable for both beginners and professionals - is a letterpress printing process. The print template (image motif) is carved into a linoleum plate. The raised, uncarved areas of the linoleum form the printing parts. The printing ink is applied evenly to the raised, uncarved areas of the linoleum panel using a rubber roller (ink roller). The coloured plate is then placed on the paper or the paper is pressed onto the printing block (linoleum plate). The colour is transferred from the linoleum to the paper using a hand roller, a printing press or by vigorous rubbing. An important requirement for the paper is that it absorbs the ink quickly. It must be very absorbent for this. Properties of lino printing: - Clear lines with large and high-contrast areas - Material: Linoleum is soft, easy to work with and durable, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced artists - Colouring: Several colours can be used by using different panels or print layers in succession. History: Lino printing became popular in the late 19th century. Artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse used this technique to create impressive, expressive works. Lino printing is often used in schools and in art education because the technique is technically simple and can be realised without a great deal of equipment. The ‘right’ paper for lino printing should fulfil a number of specific requirements in order to guarantee optimum printing results. Japico lino printing paper is characterised by the following advantageous properties. 1) Two different paper surfaces - to be used according to preference: Japico lino printing paper has a smooth and a (slightly) rough/textured paper side. Smooth paper ensures sharp, precise lines and even colour application. Slightly textured paper can create interesting, artistic effects, but is less suitable for intricate details. 2) Thickness and weight At 48g/sqm, Japico lino printing paper is very thin for lino printing paper. It moulds perfectly to the printing block and takes on even the finest details, even with hand rubbing. No great pressure is required, e.g. from a printing press. 3) Absorbency Japico lino printing paper absorbs the ink well without soaking up too much or smearing the colours. Paper that is too absorbent can lead to blurred lines. 4) Material composition Japico lino printing paper is made from high-quality fibres (Canadian softwood cellulose). It is very stable, acid-free and durable. Acid-free paper prevents the print result from yellowing or being damaged over time. 5) Colour compatibility Japico lino printing paper is suitable for both water-based and oil-based inks, although too much water can cause the paper to curl. A final pressing can remedy this.
