Paper from Manila fibers

Although Manila fibers are sometimes referred to as Manila hemp, they have nothing to do with the type of fiber known in Europe as (cannabis) hemp. Manila is a completely different plant genus, namely abacá (Musa textilis), a plant species from the banana genus. These fibers are used for tea bags, cigarette paper and banknotes, among other things. Envelopes (yellowish in color) were also originally made from Manila fibers. Manila fibers are shorter than kozu fibers (therefore not quite as tear-resistant), but significantly cheaper than kozu, gampi or mitsumata papers. Manila papers are therefore often used for price-sensitive applications.
